Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Tools Required:
    • Ratchet and socket set
    • Fluid pump (if needed)
    • Clean rags
    • Torque wrench
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface.
    • If the engine was running, allow it to cool before proceeding.
2. Remove Fill Plug
  • Using the ratchet and socket, carefully unscrew the fill plug from the transfer case.
  • Inspect the condition of the plug and seal; replace if damaged.
3. Check Fluid Level
  • Insert your finger into the fill hole; if you can feel the fluid at the bottom of your finger, the level is adequate.
  • If fluid is not present, additional fluid is needed.
4. Add Fluid (if necessary)
  • Using a fluid pump, add the recommended transfer case fluid until it begins to seep out of the fill hole.
  • Recommended Fluid: Ford XL-12 or equivalent transfer case fluid.
5. Reinstall Fill Plug
  • Clean the fill plug and apply a small amount of thread sealant if necessary.
  • Reinstall the fill plug and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specifications (usually around 20-25 ft-lbs).
6. Clean Up
  • Wipe any excess fluid from around the fill plug.
  • Dispose of any waste materials in accordance with local regulations.
