Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
2. Inspect and Repair Air Intake System
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers
  • Remove the air filter housing and inspect the air filter for cleanliness.
    • If dirty, replace with a new air filter.
  • Inspect the intake hoses for cracks or wear.
    • Replace any damaged hoses.
3. Clean or Replace MAF Sensor
  • Tools Required: MAF sensor cleaner or isopropyl alcohol, soft cloth
  • Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
  • Remove the MAF sensor from the intake duct.
  • Clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth.
  • If damaged, replace the MAF sensor with a new one.
4. Test Fuel System
  • Tools Required: Fuel pressure gauge
  • Locate the fuel rail and connect the fuel pressure gauge.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (do not start the engine) to check fuel pressure.
    • Compare the reading to the manufacturer's specified fuel pressure for the F-150.
    • If low, check the fuel pump and filter for faults and replace as necessary.
5. Inspect Vacuum Lines
  • Visually inspect all vacuum lines for integrity.
  • Replace any broken or disconnected vacuum lines.
6. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0171 code and any other stored codes.
