Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and materials.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench, socket set, oil catch pan, funnel, rags.
2. Check Oil Level and Condition
  • Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and reinsert it into the tube.
  • Pull it out again and check the oil level. It should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
  • Inspect the oil’s color and texture. If it’s dark and gritty, it’s time for a change.
3. Change Oil and Filter (if necessary)

a. Drain Old Oil

  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using a socket wrench and allow the oil to fully drain.
  • Replace the drain plug and tighten to the manufacturer’s torque specification (usually around 20-25 lb-ft).

b. Replace Oil Filter

  • Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Lubricate the rubber gasket of the new filter with a little new oil.
  • Install the new oil filter, tightening it by hand until snug.

c. Add New Oil

  • Remove the oil filler cap and use a funnel to add the recommended oil type and amount (typically 6-8 quarts of 5W-30 for the F-150).
  • Replace the oil filler cap.
4. Dispose of Old Oil
  • Transfer the old oil to a sealed container and take it to a recycling center or auto parts store that accepts used oil.
