Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the replacement.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, safety goggles
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the fuel tank shield (if equipped) by unscrewing it from the chassis.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors from the fuel pump module located at the top of the fuel tank.
3. Remove the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Fuel line disconnect tool, wrench set
  • Support the fuel tank with a jack or support straps.
  • Remove the bolts securing the fuel tank to the vehicle.
  • Lower the fuel tank carefully from the vehicle to access the fuel pump assembly.
  • Unscrew the locking ring holding the fuel pump in place and lift out the fuel pump module.
4. Install the New Fuel Pump
  • Parts Required: Replacement fuel pump assembly, O-ring (if not included with pump)
  • Compare the old and new fuel pumps to ensure they match.
  • Install the new O-ring onto the new fuel pump module.
  • Insert the new fuel pump into the fuel tank and secure it with the locking ring.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors and fuel lines to the new pump.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Raise the fuel tank back into position and secure it with its bolts.
  • Reinstall the fuel tank shield if it was removed.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and reinstall the fuel pump relay.
  • Start the engine and check for leaks around the fuel pump area.
