Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety during repairs.
2. Inspect and Replace Spark Plug
  • Remove the ignition coil from cylinder 1:
    • Unscrew the bolts securing the ignition coil.
    • Gently pull the ignition coil out of the spark plug well.
  • Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket:
    • Turn counterclockwise to unscrew.
  • Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Install a new spark plug:
    • Torque the new spark plug to 13 lb-ft (18 Nm).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil and secure it with the bolts.
3. Check and Replace Ignition Coil (if necessary)
  • If the ignition coil appears damaged or if the spark plug replacement does not resolve the issue:
    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
    • Remove and replace the ignition coil with a new one.
    • Reconnect the electrical connector.
4. Fuel Injector Inspection
  • If misfire persists, inspect the fuel injector for cylinder 1:
    • Disconnect the fuel injector connector.
    • Use a multimeter to test the injector for proper resistance (typically around 12-16 ohms).
  • Replace the fuel injector if it is faulty:
    • Remove the retaining clips and pull the injector out.
    • Install a new fuel injector and reconnect the electrical connector.
5. Compression Test (if misfire continues)
  • Perform a compression test on cylinder 1:
    • Remove the spark plug.
    • Insert the compression gauge into the spark plug hole.
    • Crank the engine to take the reading.
  • Compare the reading with manufacturer specifications. If below standard, internal engine repairs may be necessary.
