Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and a brake pad gauge.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use the lug wrench to loosen the rear wheel lug nuts.
  • Safely jack up the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the rear wheels.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the brake caliper by unbolting it from the bracket using the socket set.
    • Tools Required: Socket set
  • Carefully hang the caliper using a wire or bungee cord (do not let it dangle on the brake line).
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Measure the thickness of the brake pads using a brake pad gauge; replace if below manufacturer specifications.
  • Apply brake cleaner to clean the caliper bracket and rotor.
  • Install new brake pads by sliding them into the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotors (if necessary)
  • Check the surface of the rotors for scoring or warping.
  • If the rotors are worn beyond the minimum thickness specification, remove the rotor by unbolting it from the hub.
    • Tools Required: Socket set
  • Replace with new rotors, ensuring they are mounted correctly and securely torqued to manufacturer specifications.
5. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the brake caliper over the new brake pads and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern using the torque wrench.
