Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, wrench set, strut spreader tool, torque wrench, and safety glasses.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel for access to the strut assembly.
2. Remove the Old Strut
  1. Disconnect the sway bar link:
    • Use a wrench to remove the nut from the sway bar link connected to the strut.
  2. Remove the lower strut bolt:
    • Locate the lower strut bolt and remove it using a socket and ratchet.
  3. Detach the strut from the top mount:
    • Open the hood and locate the strut top mount.
    • Remove the nuts securing the strut to the mount using a socket.
  4. Extract the strut:
    • Carefully pull the strut down and out from the lower control arm and set it aside.
3. Install the New Strut
  1. Position the new strut:
    • Align the new strut with the lower control arm and insert it into place.
  2. Secure the lower strut bolt:
    • Insert and tighten the lower strut bolt to the manufacturer’s torque specification (usually around 85 ft-lbs, but check your service manual).
  3. Attach the strut to the top mount:
    • Place the strut into the top mount and secure it with the nuts. Tighten to the specified torque (typically between 22-30 ft-lbs).
  4. Reconnect the sway bar link:
    • Reattach the sway bar link to the strut and tighten the nut to the specified torque.
4. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specification (usually around 100 ft-lbs).
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
