Solution
1. Preparation
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.

Tools Required:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver set
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel associated with the clicking noise.
  • Safely lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace CV Joints/Axles
  • Inspect the CV Joint:

    • Check the CV joint for any cracks, tears, or damage.
  • Replace if Necessary:

    • Use pliers to remove the clamps securing the CV boot.
    • Slide the boot off the CV joint.
    • If the joint is damaged, remove the joint from the axle using the appropriate socket.
    • Install a new CV joint or axle by aligning it properly and securing it with the retaining clip.
4. Reassemble Components
  • Slide the CV boot back over the joint and secure it with new clamps.
  • Reattach the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
5. Torque Lug Nuts
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specified torque value (typically around 100-110 ft-lbs for Ford Mustangs, but verify in the owner's manual).
