Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, brake cleaner, torque wrench, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged. Disconnect the battery if necessary for safety.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front and/or rear wheels slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.
3. Inspect Brake Components
  • Brake Pads: Remove the caliper bolts using the socket set. Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor without disconnecting the brake line. Inspect the brake pads for wear; replace if the friction material is less than 3mm thick.
  • Brake Rotors: Check the rotors for any scoring or grooves. If the surface is damaged or worn beyond manufacturer specifications, the rotors will need to be replaced or resurfaced.
4. Replace Brake Pads and Rotors
  • If replacing the pads, compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp or brake caliper tool to create space for the new pads.
  • Install new brake pads, ensuring they are oriented correctly.
  • If replacing the rotors, remove the old rotor and install the new rotor, securing it with the appropriate torque specifications (refer to manufacturer’s specifications).
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the brake caliper over the new pads and tighten the caliper bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque.
