1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Fluid catch pan
    • Turkey baster or fluid transfer pump
    • Funnel
    • Shop towels
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off and cool before starting.
2. Remove Old Fluid
  1. Open the hood and locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Use a turkey baster or fluid transfer pump to remove as much old fluid as possible from the reservoir.
  3. Dispose of the old fluid properly, following local regulations.
3. Flush the System
  1. Refill the reservoir with new power steering fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
  2. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel fully from left to right several times to circulate the new fluid through the system.
  3. Check the fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
4. Drain the System
  1. Locate the power steering return line; prepare to disconnect it from the pump.
  2. Place a fluid catch pan under the return line to catch the old fluid.
  3. Carefully disconnect the return line from the pump; allow old fluid to drain into the pan.
  4. Reconnect the return line securely.
5. Final Fill and Test
  1. Fill the power steering reservoir with new fluid to the recommended level.
  2. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
  3. Turn the steering wheel fully left and fully right again to remove any air bubbles.
  4. Check the fluid level again and top off as necessary.
