Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Disconnect the battery negative terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and running the engine until it stalls.
2. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Raise the vehicle securely on jack stands.
  • Remove the fuel tank skid plate if equipped.
  • Disconnect any fuel lines and electrical connectors from the fuel pump module.
  • Unbolt and lower the fuel tank carefully.
3. Remove the Fuel Pump Assembly
  • Remove the locking ring securing the fuel pump assembly to the tank using a fuel pump locking ring tool.
  • Carefully lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank.
  • Inspect the fuel pump for physical damage and check the condition of the fuel strainer.
4. Install New Fuel Pump
  • Replace the old fuel pump with a new, compatible unit.
  • Reinstall the fuel strainer and ensure it is properly seated.
  • Place the fuel pump assembly back into the tank and secure it with the locking ring.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors.
  • Raise the fuel tank back into position and reattach the skid plate if applicable.
  • Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
  • Start the engine and monitor for proper fuel pressure and operation.
