Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

Tools Required:

  • OBD-II scanner
  • Multimeter
  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Fuel line disconnect tool
2. Access the Fuel Sender Unit
  1. Relieve Fuel System Pressure

    • Remove the fuel pump relay from the fuse box.
    • Start the engine and let it run until it stalls, indicating pressure has been relieved.
  2. Raise Vehicle

    • Safely lift the vehicle and support it with jack stands.
  3. Remove Fuel Tank

    • Disconnect the fuel filler neck and any vent lines.
    • Detach the fuel lines using a fuel line disconnect tool.
    • Unbolt the fuel tank straps and lower the tank carefully.
3. Inspect and Replace Fuel Sender Unit
  1. Remove Fuel Sender

    • Locate the fuel sender unit on top of the tank.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector and remove any retaining screws or clips.
    • Carefully lift the sender unit out of the tank.
  2. Inspect Sender Unit

    • Check the float arm for any obstructions or damage.
    • Measure the resistance and compare it with specifications.
    • If defective, replace with a new sender unit.
  3. Install New Fuel Sender

    • Install the new sender unit in reverse order, ensuring all connectors are secure.
4. Reassemble Fuel Tank
  1. Reinstall Fuel Tank

    • Position the fuel tank back into place and reattach the straps.
    • Reconnect the fuel lines and ensure there are no leaks.
  2. Reconnect Battery

    • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
5. Test the System
  • Start the engine and check the fuel gauge operation.
  • Ensure the gauge responds accurately to fuel levels.
