Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Disconnect the battery before starting any electrical work.
2. Check and Replenish Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; if low, add the recommended power steering fluid.
  • Inspect the fluid for contamination; if contaminated, flush the system.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump
  • Disconnect the power steering pump belt using a socket set.
  • Remove the power steering pump from its bracket.
  • Inspect for any signs of wear or damage; if faulty, replace with a new pump.
  • Reinstall the new pump and reattach the belt, tightening to manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Check and Replace Steering Rack and Pinion
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for better access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the steering linkage from the steering rack.
  • Remove any mounting bolts securing the steering rack and carefully extract it.
  • Install the new steering rack and reconnect the linkage and bolts.
5. Final Checks
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with the correct type of fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels again and top off if necessary.
