Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, jack and jack stands, fluid catch pan, socket set, multimeter, torque wrench.
  • Before beginning repairs, disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical shorts. Allow the vehicle to cool down if the engine has been running.
2. Check Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the transmission dipstick and remove it.
  • Wipe it clean and reinsert it, then remove it again to check the fluid level.
  • If the fluid is low, add the recommended transmission fluid (Honda ATF-Z1 or DW-1) until it reaches the correct level. If the fluid is dirty, proceed to change it.
3. Change Transmission Fluid and Filter
  • Place a fluid catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts with a socket set and carefully lower the pan to avoid spilling fluid.
  • Replace the old filter with a new one (ensure it matches the OEM specifications).
  • Clean the pan and the magnet inside it to remove any metal shavings or debris.
  • Reinstall the pan with a new gasket and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 10-12 ft-lbs).
4. Inspect and Repair Wiring
  • Check wiring harness connected to the TCM for any frays or corrosion.
  • Repair or replace any damaged wires or connectors.
  • Ensure all connections are secure.
5. Reprogram TCM (if necessary)
  • If a TCM replacement was required, reprogram it using the OBD-II scanner to ensure it is correctly configured to the vehicle.
6. Reconnect Battery and Perform Test Drive
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and observe if the check engine light is still illuminated.
  • Perform a test drive to ensure the transmission shifts smoothly and that the P0700 code does not reappear.
