Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Lug wrench
    • Ball joint separator or pickle fork
    • Torque wrench
    • Socket set
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is securely lifted on jack stands before working on suspension components.
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a lug wrench.
  2. Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Ball Joint
  1. Detach Suspension Components: If necessary, remove the components connected to the ball joint, such as the tie rod end or lower control arm, depending on the design.
  2. Use Ball Joint Separator: Insert the ball joint separator between the ball joint and its socket. Strike the separator to free the ball joint from the control arm or steering knuckle.
  3. Remove the Ball Joint: Unbolt the ball joint from the control arm or knuckle, taking note of the orientation for reinstallation.
4. Install New Ball Joint
  1. Position New Ball Joint: Align the new ball joint with the mounting holes on the control arm or knuckle.
  2. Bolt in Place: Hand-tighten the bolts, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult the service manual for specific torque values).
  3. Reattach Suspension Components: Reconnect any components that were removed, ensuring they are secured properly.
5. Reinstall Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands using the jack.
  3. Once the vehicle is on the ground, use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
