Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Wheel Removal
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Raise the vehicle using the jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheels.
3. Brake Inspection
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench, socket set.
  • Inspect the brake pads for thickness; replace if they are below manufacturer specifications (typically 3mm).
  • Check the rotors for scoring or warping. Replace if necessary.
  • Examine calipers for any signs of sticking or leaks; lubricate or replace as needed.
4. Brake Pad Replacement
  • Remove the caliper bolts using a socket and ratchet.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor without stretching the brake line.
  • Remove old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Note: Use a brake pad spreader tool to compress the caliper piston if installing new pads.
  • Install new brake pads ensuring they are correctly positioned in the caliper bracket.
5. Reassembly
  • Reattach the caliper over the new brake pads and secure it with the caliper bolts. Torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
6. Final Inspection
  • Check brake fluid level, and top off if necessary.
  • Test the brakes by gently pressing the pedal before driving.
