Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, wire brush, dielectric grease.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is turned off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shorts.
2. Inspect and Clean Connections
  1. Remove the right rear wheel to access the wheel speed sensor.
  2. Locate the wheel speed sensor connector and disconnect it.
  3. Inspect the connector for dirt and corrosion. Clean with a wire brush if necessary.
  4. Apply dielectric grease to the connector to prevent moisture intrusion.
3. Replace the Wheel Speed Sensor
  1. Unbolt the wheel speed sensor from its mounting bracket using the appropriate socket.
  2. Remove the old sensor from the hub assembly.
  3. Install the new wheel speed sensor by reversing the removal steps.
  4. Torque the sensor mounting bolt to manufacturer specifications (usually around 8-10 lb-ft).
  5. Reconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.
4. Reconnect Battery and Test
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Start the vehicle and allow it to idle for a few minutes.
  3. Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the C0051 code from the system.
