Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather your tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and secure with wheel chocks.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and support it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts before raising the vehicle.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel to access the suspension components.
3. Remove the Ball Joint
  • Tools Required: Socket set, ball joint separator, torque wrench.
  • Locate the ball joint and remove the cotter pin (if present).
  • Use a socket to remove the retaining nut from the ball joint.
  • Use a ball joint separator to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
  • If necessary, remove the bolts holding the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
4. Install New Ball Joint
  • Position the new ball joint in the control arm or steering knuckle.
  • Reattach the retaining nut and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications (refer to the service manual for correct torque values).
  • Insert a new cotter pin to secure the nut.
5. Reassemble Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Ensure that everything is secure, and remove any tools from the work area.
