Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Remove Instrument Cluster
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdriver, trim removal tool
  • Remove the dashboard trim surrounding the instrument cluster using a trim removal tool.
  • Unscrew the bolts securing the instrument cluster using a socket set.
  • Carefully pull the instrument cluster out, disconnecting any electrical connectors attached to the back.
3. Replace Fuel Level Sending Unit (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fuel line disconnect tool, safety goggles
  • Relieve fuel pressure from the system by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank using a fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Remove the fuel tank access cover (if applicable) or drop the fuel tank to access the sending unit.
  • Unscrew and remove the fuel level sending unit from the tank.
  • Install the new sending unit by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all seals are in place.
4. Reassemble Instrument Cluster
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the back of the instrument cluster.
  • Secure the instrument cluster in place with the bolts and reattach the dashboard trim.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Test the Fuel Gauge
  • Start the vehicle and observe the fuel gauge operation.
  • Add fuel to ensure the gauge reflects accurate levels.
