Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdriver set
    • Throttle body cleaner
    • Soft cloth or rags
    • Safety glasses
    • Torque wrench
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on electrical components.
    • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting the repair.
2. Remove the Throttle Body
  1. Disconnect the Battery

    • Use a socket to disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  2. Remove Air Intake Duct

    • Loosen the clamps securing the air intake duct to the throttle body using a screwdriver or socket.
    • Carefully remove the duct and set aside.
  3. Disconnect Electrical Connectors

    • Locate the electrical connector attached to the throttle body.
    • Release the locking tab and gently pull the connector free.
  4. Remove Throttle Body Bolts

    • Use a socket to remove the bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold. Keep track of the bolts for reinstallation.
  5. Carefully Remove Throttle Body

    • Gently pull the throttle body away from the intake manifold, being careful not to damage any gaskets.
3. Clean the Throttle Body
  1. Initial Cleaning

    • Use a soft cloth or rag to wipe away any loose debris or carbon buildup from the throttle body.
  2. Apply Throttle Body Cleaner

    • Spray throttle body cleaner onto a clean cloth, then use it to wipe the inside surfaces of the throttle body, including the throttle plate and surrounding areas.
    • For heavy carbon buildup, spray cleaner directly into the throttle body and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping again.
  3. Inspect and Clean Sensors

    • If applicable, inspect the throttle position sensor (TPS) for any debris. Clean carefully with a cloth, avoiding direct contact with the sensor.
4. Reinstall Throttle Body
  1. Position Throttle Body

    • Align the throttle body with the intake manifold and ensure any gaskets are properly seated.
  2. Secure Bolts

    • Hand-tighten the bolts first, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
  3. Reconnect Electrical Connectors

    • Plug the electrical connector back into the throttle body until it clicks into place.
  4. Reattach Air Intake Duct

    • Reinstall the air intake duct, ensuring clamps are secured tightly.
  5. Reconnect Battery

    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
