Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, screwdrivers, coolant catch pan, funnel.
  • Parts Required: New thermostat, thermostat gasket, coolant (Honda Genuine Type 2 or equivalent).
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before working on electrical systems. Allow the engine to cool completely before opening the cooling system.
2. Drain Coolant
  • Place a coolant catch pan under the radiator.
  • Open the radiator drain valve and allow coolant to completely drain into the pan.
  • Close the drain valve after all coolant has been drained.
3. Remove the Thermostat
  • Locate the thermostat housing, typically near the engine block where the upper radiator hose connects.
  • Remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing using a socket set.
  • Carefully lift the thermostat housing to access the thermostat.
  • Remove the old thermostat and gasket from the housing.
4. Install New Thermostat
  • Clean the mating surface of the thermostat housing and engine block to ensure a proper seal.
  • Place the new thermostat in the housing, ensuring it is oriented correctly (spring side facing the engine).
  • Install the new gasket onto the thermostat housing.
  • Reattach the thermostat housing and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
5. Refill Coolant
  • Use a funnel to refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant until the level reaches the fill line.
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes with the radiator cap off to allow air to escape.
  • Once the coolant level stabilizes, replace the radiator cap securely.
