Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any accidental electrical shorts.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set (typically 19mm for the lug nuts).
3. Remove the Ball Joint
  • Remove the cotter pin from the ball joint nut using pliers.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the ball joint nut (usually 17mm).
  • Use a ball joint separator tool to disconnect the ball joint from the control arm.
  • If necessary, remove any retaining clips or bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
4. Install New Ball Joint
  • Place the new ball joint into the control arm or steering knuckle.
  • Secure it with the nut, tightening it to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 40-60 ft-lbs).
  • Reinsert the cotter pin to secure the nut.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach the wheel and lug nuts, tightening to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (usually 80-100 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the battery.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
