Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:

    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Torque wrench
    • Strut spring compressor (if replacing strut assembly)
  • Secure the vehicle on a flat surface.

  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.

  • Allow the vehicle to cool down.

2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which strut is leaking.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
  • Store lug nuts in a safe place to prevent loss.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Locate the upper strut mount under the hood or in the trunk for rear struts. Remove the nuts using a socket.
  • Remove the lower strut bolts at the knuckle using a wrench.
  • If necessary, use a strut spring compressor to decompress the coil spring if replacing the strut assembly.
  • Carefully remove the strut from the vehicle.
5. Install New Strut
  • If replacing, install the new strut in the reverse order of removal.
  • Ensure all bolts are hand-tightened first, then use a torque wrench to tighten to manufacturer specifications (often around 50-80 ft-lbs for lower bolts and 15-25 ft-lbs for upper strut mount).
  • Reattach the wheel and tighten lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Check the alignment of the wheels, as strut replacement can affect alignment.
