Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, brake caliper tool, C-clamp, jack stands, lug wrench, brake cleaner, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Elevate the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using the lug wrench.
2. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Use the socket set to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor.
  • Suspend the caliper using a bungee cord or wire to avoid stressing the brake line.
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of their brackets.
  • Note the position of the pads for correct installation of new ones.
4. Compress Caliper Piston
  • Use a brake caliper tool or C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. This will create space for the new, thicker brake pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is removed to prevent pressure build-up.
5. Install New Brake Pads
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same position as the old pads.
  • Ensure they are seated securely.
6. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads.
  • Reinstall and tighten the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
7. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads against the rotor before driving.
