Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:

    • Socket set (with 10mm and 12mm sockets)
    • Torque wrench
    • Spark plug socket (5/8 inch)
    • Ratchet and extension
    • Dielectric grease
    • Cleaning brush or compressed air
    • Gloves and safety glasses
  • Sub-steps:

    • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
    • Allow the engine to cool down completely before starting work.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    • Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift off the engine cover and set it aside.
3. Remove Ignition Coil Packs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the clip and pulling it off.
    • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a 10mm socket.
    • Gently pull out each ignition coil from the spark plug hole.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew and remove the old spark plugs from the cylinder head.
    • Inspect the spark plug threads and the combustion chamber for any debris or carbon buildup. Clean if necessary.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to facilitate easier future removal.
    • Hand-tighten the new spark plugs into the cylinder head, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 13 lb-ft).
    • Ensure that they are not over-tightened to avoid damaging the threads.
6. Reinstall Ignition Coil Packs
  • Sub-steps:
    • Reinsert each ignition coil into its corresponding spark plug well.
    • Secure the coils with the bolts using a 10mm socket.
    • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil until they click into place.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    • Place the engine cover back onto the engine.
    • Secure it with the previously removed bolts using a 10mm socket.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Sub-steps:
    • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
