Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool before starting work.
2. Remove the O2 Sensor
  • Locate the upstream O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold.
  • Use a socket wrench with the appropriate size O2 sensor socket to unscrew the O2 sensor from its mounting point.
  • Carefully disconnect the sensor's electrical connector.
3. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the O2 sensor connector for any corrosion or damage; clean if necessary using electrical contact cleaner.
  • Check the wiring harness for frayed wires or shorts and repair as needed.
4. Install New O2 Sensor
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new O2 sensor (if applicable) to ensure easy removal in the future.
  • Install the new O2 sensor by threading it into the exhaust manifold and tightening it to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 30-40 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector securely.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0135 trouble code from the vehicle's memory.
