Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: OBD-II scanner, socket set, fluid catch pan, power steering fluid, and a funnel.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Allow the engine to cool down before beginning work.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  1. Open the hood and locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the markings on the reservoir.
  3. If the fluid is low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  4. Replace the cap securely after filling.
3. Inspect Power Steering System
  1. Visually inspect power steering hoses and connections for signs of wear, damage, or leaks.
  2. If leaks are found, determine the source and replace the damaged hoses or fittings as needed.
  3. Check the power steering pump for any signs of damage or excessive wear.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System (if fluid was low)
  1. With the engine running, turn the steering wheel fully left and right several times to help purge air from the system.
  2. Check the fluid level again and add more fluid if necessary.
  3. Inspect for any new leaks after bleeding the system.
5. Replace Power Steering Pump (if noise persists)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt from the power steering pump.
  3. Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump, using a catch pan to collect any residual fluid.
  4. Remove the mounting bolts securing the power steering pump and take out the pump.
  5. Install the new power steering pump by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure.
