Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, transmission fluid, funnel, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Check and Replace Transmission Fluid
  • a. Locate the transmission dipstick and remove it. Check the fluid level; it should be within the marked range.
  • b. If the fluid is low, add the appropriate type of transmission fluid (Honda Z-1 ATF or DW-1 ATF).
  • c. If the fluid is dark or has a burnt smell, drain and replace the transmission fluid. Use a socket set to remove the drain plug, allow old fluid to drain, then replace the plug and fill with new fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel.
3. Inspect and Repair Wiring and Connectors
  • a. Visually inspect the wiring harness connected to the transmission control module and transmission for damage.
  • b. Repair any damaged wires or connectors by soldering or replacing as necessary.
  • c. Ensure all connections are secure and free from corrosion.
4. Test Transmission Control Module (TCM)
  • a. Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the 'ON' position without starting the engine.
  • b. Use a multimeter to check the voltage and ground signals at the TCM according to the service manual specifications.
  • c. If the TCM is faulty, replace it with a new unit.
5. Replace Transmission Solenoids (if necessary)
  • a. If solenoids are malfunctioning, remove the transmission pan using a socket set.
  • b. Replace the solenoids one by one, ensuring to follow the manufacturer’s specifications for installation.
  • c. Reinstall the transmission pan and torque the bolts to the specified value.
