Solution
1. Preparation
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engaged in gear or park.
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, safety glasses, gloves.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and securely place it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheels using a lug wrench.
3. Remove Brake Components
  • Brake Pads:

    • Locate the brake caliper and remove the caliper bolts using a socket.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and support it with a bungee cord or similar.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Brake Rotors (if needed):

    • If replacing rotors, remove the caliper bracket bolts and slide the bracket off.
    • Remove the rotor by pulling it straight off the hub, ensuring any retaining screws are removed.
4. Inspect and Clean
  • Inspect the caliper for damage or leaks.
  • Clean the rotor surface with brake cleaner to remove any debris or grease.
  • If the rotor is not being replaced, ensure it's smooth and free from scoring.
5. Install New Components
  • New Brake Pads:

    • Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
    • Install the new pads into the caliper bracket.
  • New Rotors (if applicable):

    • Install the new rotor onto the hub and secure it with retaining screws if applicable.
    • Reattach the caliper bracket over the new pads and torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
6. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the brake caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reattach the wheels and torque the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern.
  • Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
