Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, torque wrench.
  • Locate the U-joint straps or bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
  • Remove the bolts or straps using the appropriate socket or wrench.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the U-joint.
4. Inspect and Replace U-joint
  • Check the U-joint for wear. If there is significant wear or damage, replace it.
  • To remove the old U-joint, use a U-joint press or hammer to push out the retaining clips and the U-joint from the yoke.
  • Install the new U-joint by aligning it correctly and pressing it into place. Ensure it is secured with new retaining clips.
5. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Slide the driveshaft back into the U-joint, ensuring it is properly aligned.
  • Reattach the driveshaft to the differential and transmission, using new bolts if necessary.
  • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Reconnect the battery.
