Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to ensure safety.
2. Inspect and Repair Wiring
  • Tools Required: Wire stripper/crimper, multimeter, electrical tape
  • Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left front wheel speed sensor for any visible damage.
  • If damage is found, repair the wiring by cutting out the damaged section and splicing in new wire using a wire stripper/crimper.
  • Secure the repaired wiring with electrical tape to prevent future exposure.
3. Replace Wheel Speed Sensor
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner
  • Locate the left front wheel speed sensor on the wheel hub assembly.
  • Remove the mounting bolt securing the sensor using the socket set.
  • Carefully pull the sensor from its housing; clean the area with brake cleaner to remove debris.
  • Install the new wheel speed sensor by inserting it into the housing and securing it with the mounting bolt. Torque the bolt to the manufacturer's specification (typically around 8-10 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector ensuring it is secure.
4. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and ensure it is tight.
5. Clear Codes and Test
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the C0031 code and any other related codes.
  • Perform a test drive to ensure the ABS and traction control systems are functioning correctly and that no warning lights reappear.
