Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical short circuits.
2. Remove Steering Wheel
  • Tools Required: Socket set, steering wheel puller (if necessary).
  • Loosen the steering wheel nut using the appropriate socket.
  • If equipped, remove the airbag unit by unscrewing screws on the back side of the steering wheel (ensure the battery is disconnected).
  • Carefully pull the steering wheel off the column (a steering wheel puller may be necessary).
3. Inspect and Replace Clock Spring
  • Tools Required: Torx screwdriver, socket set.
  • Remove the plastic cover around the steering column by unscrewing any retaining screws.
  • Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from the clock spring and note its orientation.
  • Remove the clock spring by unscrewing the retaining screws and replace it with a new unit.
  • Reconnect the wiring harness ensuring proper alignment.
4. Reassemble Steering Column
  • Reinstall the steering wheel by aligning it with the column and tightening the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque (check service manual for specific torque values).
  • Reattach the airbag unit (if removed) and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Test the Repair
  • Start the vehicle and test the steering wheel for any clicking noises while turning in both directions.
