Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels for safety.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheel on the side where the tie rod end will be replaced using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Wrench, tie rod end puller (or hammer), penetrating oil
  • Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end nut if it’s rusted.
  • Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. If you do not have a puller, gently tap the knuckle with a hammer to loosen it.
4. Install the New Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench
  • Thread the new tie rod end into the steering rack, ensuring it is adjusted to the same length as the old one (measure if necessary).
  • Tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 45-50 ft-lbs).
  • Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the nut, also torquing it to the specified value.
5. Reassemble and Check Alignment
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specification (usually around 80-100 ft-lbs).
  • Take the vehicle for a professional alignment to ensure proper steering geometry.
