Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, fluid catch pan, funnel, power steering fluid.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
2. Drain Power Steering Fluid
  • Place a fluid catch pan under the steering rack.
  • Locate the power steering return hose and disconnect it carefully.
  • Allow the fluid to drain completely into the pan.
3. Remove Steering Rack
  • Remove the front wheels to gain access to the steering components.
  • Disconnect the tie rods from the steering rack by loosening the nuts and using a tie rod end puller.
  • Remove any brackets or bolts securing the steering rack to the chassis.
  • Disconnect the input shaft from the steering column.
  • Carefully remove the steering rack from the vehicle.
4. Repair or Replace Steering Rack
  • Repair: If the leak is from a specific seal, replace the seal using a seal kit. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for seal replacement.
  • Replace: If the rack is severely damaged, replace it with a new or remanufactured steering rack. Ensure it matches OEM specifications.
5. Reinstall Steering Rack
  • Place the repaired or new steering rack back into position.
  • Reconnect the input shaft to the steering column.
  • Secure the steering rack with bolts and brackets, tightening them to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
  • Reattach the tie rods, ensuring they are tightened according to specifications.
6. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Using a funnel, refill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid (typically Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid).
  • Reconnect the return hose and ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.
7. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed any air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels and top off if necessary.
