Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, torque wrench, wire brush, and safety glasses.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove the Faulty O2 Sensor
  1. Locate the upstream O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold.
  2. Use a socket or O2 sensor wrench to carefully unscrew the old sensor from its mounting.
  3. If the sensor is stuck, apply penetrating oil and allow it to soak before attempting to remove it.
3. Inspect and Clean the Connector
  1. Inspect the O2 sensor connector for any signs of corrosion or damage.
  2. Use a wire brush or contact cleaner to clean the terminals if they appear dirty.
  3. Ensure that the connections are secure and free from moisture.
4. Install the New O2 Sensor
  1. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new O2 sensor (avoid applying it to the sensor tip).
  2. Thread the new sensor into the exhaust manifold and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 30-35 lb-ft).
  3. Reconnect the O2 sensor connector ensuring a tight fit.
5. Reconnect Battery and Clear Codes
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0135 code from the vehicle's computer.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
