Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, torque wrench, steering wheel puller (if needed), pliers, and a jack with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery if working on the steering system.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels to gain access to the tie rod ends.
3. Remove the Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Socket set, pliers.
  • Locate the tie rod end and remove the cotter pin from the castle nut using pliers.
  • Use a socket to remove the castle nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  • Tap the steering knuckle with a hammer to free the tie rod end from its seat. If necessary, use a tie rod end puller.
4. Install New Tie Rod End
  • Position the new tie rod end in the steering knuckle and secure it with the castle nut.
  • Torque the castle nut to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 35-50 ft-lbs).
  • Insert a new cotter pin through the castle nut and bend it to secure it.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
  • Torque the wheel lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
6. Alignment
  • Take the vehicle to a professional alignment shop to ensure proper wheel alignment.
