Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • U-joint removal tool (if necessary)
    • Safety goggles and gloves
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised with jack stands before working underneath.
    • Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from debris.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  1. Secure the Vehicle:
    • Engage the parking brake and place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
  2. Lift the Vehicle:
    • Use a jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  3. Disconnect the Driveshaft:
    • Using a socket set, remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and the transfer case (if applicable).
    • Carefully slide the driveshaft off the U-joints.
3. Inspect U-joints
  1. Check for Play:
    • Manually rotate the U-joint in its housing to check for excessive movement.
    • If any play is detected, the U-joint may need to be replaced.
  2. Listen for Noises:
    • Rotate the U-joint while listening for any grinding or clicking sounds that indicate wear.
4. Replace U-joint (if necessary)
  1. Remove Old U-joint:
    • Use a U-joint removal tool to press out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  2. Install New U-joint:
    • Grease the new U-joint and carefully press it into place.
    • Ensure that it is seated properly in the yoke.
  3. Reassemble Driveshaft:
    • Reattach the driveshaft to the vehicle using original bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
