Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Pliers
    • U-joint removal tool (if necessary)
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery if working near electrical components.
2. Remove the Driveshaft
  1. Lift the Vehicle: Use the jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove Bolts: Use a socket set to remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
  3. Support and Slide Out Driveshaft: Carefully support the driveshaft and slide it out of the U-joint.
3. Inspect and Replace U-Joint
  1. Inspect U-Joint: Look for signs of wear such as play in the joint, rust, or excessive grease leakage.
  2. Remove U-Joint:
    • Use a U-joint removal tool or pliers to remove the retaining clips.
    • Press out the U-joint from the yoke using the removal tool if necessary.
  3. Install New U-Joint:
    • Lubricate the new U-joint and insert it into the yoke.
    • Reinstall retaining clips securely.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  1. Align Driveshaft: Position the driveshaft back into the U-joint and align it with the differential and transmission.
  2. Torque Bolts: Reinstall and torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (consult service manual for specific values).
  3. Lower Vehicle: Remove jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
