Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove front wheels for better access to the steering components.
2. Remove the Old Steering Rack
  1. Detach the Power Steering Lines

    • Use a line wrench to disconnect the power steering fluid lines from the steering rack.
    • Use a drain pan to catch any fluid that may spill.
  2. Remove the Tie Rod Ends

    • Use a tie rod puller to disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
    • Mark the position of the tie rods for alignment later.
  3. Remove the Steering Column Coupler

    • Locate the coupler connecting the steering column to the steering rack.
    • Remove the bolt securing the coupler and slide it off the rack.
  4. Unbolt the Steering Rack

    • Locate the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
    • Use a socket set to remove these bolts.
  5. Remove the Steering Rack

    • Carefully slide the steering rack out from the vehicle, taking care not to damage any surrounding components.
3. Install the New Steering Rack
  1. Position the New Steering Rack

    • Align the new steering rack into position within the subframe.
  2. Secure the Steering Rack

    • Bolt the steering rack back onto the subframe using the original bolts. Torque to manufacturer's specifications.
  3. Reconnect the Steering Column Coupler

    • Slide the coupler back onto the new steering rack and secure it with the bolt.
  4. Reattach the Tie Rod Ends

    • Install the tie rod ends back into the steering knuckles. Ensure they are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  5. Reconnect the Power Steering Lines

    • Reattach the power steering fluid lines to the new rack and tighten securely.
4. Final Assembly
  1. Refill Power Steering Fluid

    • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid type as specified in the owner’s manual.
