Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine has cooled down.
  • Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
2. Clean Throttle Body
  • Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold:
    • Use a socket set to unbolt the throttle body.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  • Clean the throttle body using throttle body cleaner:
    • Spray the cleaner onto a clean cloth and wipe the interior surfaces.
    • Ensure the throttle plate moves freely.
  • Reinstall the throttle body:
    • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 89 inch-pounds).
    • Reconnect electrical connectors.
3. Replace Spark Plugs
  • Remove the ignition coil:
    • Use a socket set to unbolt the ignition coil from the spark plug.
    • Gently pull the coil out to access the spark plug.
  • Remove the old spark plug:
    • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to unscrew the spark plug.
  • Install new spark plugs:
    • Check the gap using a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary.
    • Screw in the new spark plug by hand, then use the torque wrench to tighten to manufacturer specifications (usually around 15-20 foot-pounds).
  • Reinstall the ignition coil and ensure it is secured.
4. Check and Replace ECT Sensor if Necessary
  • Locate the ECT sensor, usually near the thermostat housing.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sensor using a socket.
  • Install the new ECT sensor and reconnect the electrical connector.
5. Final Inspection
  • Reconnect the battery negative terminal.
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature while monitoring idle quality.
