Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, C-clamp, jack and jack stands, wheel chocks.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to prevent rolling.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a socket wrench.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper mounting bolts and use the socket set to remove them.
  • Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake line; use a bungee cord or rope to secure it to the suspension.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the caliper for any signs of damage or corrosion.
5. Compress Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp to gently compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. This will create space for the new, thicker pads.
  • Ensure the brake fluid reservoir cap is removed to allow fluid to flow back into the reservoir.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Place the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old pads.
  • Make sure that the anti-rattle clips are properly seated if applicable.
7. Reinstall Brake Caliper
  • Slide the caliper back over the new pads and brake rotor.
  • Reinstall the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque (usually around 25-30 Nm, but verify with service manual).
8. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually around 100 Nm).
9. Final Checks
  • Refill the brake fluid reservoir if necessary.
  • Reinstall the reservoir cap and check for any leaks.
