Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues during the repair.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Remove the power steering reservoir cap.
  • Use a turkey baster to extract old fluid from the reservoir.
  • Refill with the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid (check owner's manual for specifications).
  • Replace the reservoir cap securely.
3. Replace Power Steering Pump (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan, power steering fluid.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump hoses (use a fluid catch pan to collect any leaking fluid).
  • Unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket.
  • Install the new power steering pump and secure it with bolts (torque to manufacturer specifications).
  • Reattach the hoses and the serpentine belt.
  • Reconnect the battery.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to remove air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level and add fluid as necessary.
