Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
2. Replace Vehicle Speed Sensor
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, multimeter, screwdriver, replacement vehicle speed sensor.
  • Locate the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission housing.
  • Remove any components obstructing access to the sensor (e.g., air intake ducting).
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor.
  • Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor using a socket wrench.
  • Gently pull the sensor out of its mounting hole. Inspect the sensor and mounting area for debris or damage.
  • Install the new vehicle speed sensor by reversing the removal steps:
    • Insert the new sensor into the mounting hole.
    • Secure it with the retaining bolt(s) and tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 8-10 ft-lbs).
    • Reconnect the electrical connector.
  • Reassemble any components that were removed for access.
3. Reset the ECU
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0720 code from the vehicle's memory.
