Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wrench set, torque wrench, pry bar, flashlight.
  • Safety Warnings: Always work on a flat surface and ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands before working underneath.
2. Replace Worn Shocks/Struts
  1. Lift the Vehicle: Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove Wheel: Take off the wheel corresponding to the noisy suspension component.
  3. Unbolt Shock/Strut: Use a wrench to remove the bolts securing the shock or strut to the control arm and the chassis.
  4. Remove the Shock/Strut Assembly: Gently pull out the shock or strut assembly from its mount.
  5. Install New Shock/Strut: Position the new shock or strut in place and hand-tighten the bolts.
  6. Torque Bolts: Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually found in the service manual).
  7. Reinstall Wheel: Put the wheel back on and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  8. Lower the Vehicle: Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground.
3. Replace Worn Bushings
  1. Remove Suspension Component: If bushings are worn, the corresponding suspension component (like control arms) may need to be removed.
  2. Press Out Old Bushings: Use a bushing press to remove old bushings from the component.
  3. Install New Bushings: Press in the new bushings ensuring they are properly seated.
  4. Reinstall Component: Reattach the suspension component and torque to specifications.
