Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, transmission fluid dipstick, OBD-II scanner, fluid catch pan.
2. Drain the Old Fluid
  • Locate the transmission fluid pan and place a fluid catch pan underneath.
  • Remove the pan bolts using a socket wrench, starting at one corner to allow fluid to drain.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow all fluid to drain completely.
3. Replace the Transmission Filter
  • Remove the old transmission filter. Some models may require you to unbolt it from the transmission case.
  • Install the new transmission filter, ensuring it is securely fastened.
4. Clean the Transmission Pan
  • Thoroughly clean the inside of the transmission pan with a suitable solvent.
  • Remove any old gasket material from the mating surface of the pan and the transmission case.
5. Reinstall the Transmission Pan
  • Place a new gasket onto the transmission pan or apply gasket maker if required.
  • Reattach the transmission pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 10-15 ft-lbs).
6. Refilling Transmission Fluid
  • Using a funnel, refill the transmission with the correct type of new transmission fluid (consult the owner’s manual for specifications).
  • Start the engine and shift through all gears, allowing the fluid to circulate.
  • Check the fluid level again and add more if necessary.
