Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, drain pan, funnel, and fluid pump.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool if it has been running.
  • Disconnect the vehicle's battery to prevent electrical issues.
2. Drain and Remove Transfer Case
  • Place a drain pan under the transfer case.
  • Remove the drain plug and allow the fluid to completely drain.
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors and shift linkage attached to the transfer case.
  • Remove the bolts securing the transfer case to the transmission.
  • Carefully slide the transfer case off the transmission and set it on a workbench.
3. Inspect and Repair
  • Inspect Gears and Components:
    • Visually inspect the gears and internal components for wear or damage.
    • Check for broken or worn seals and bearings.
  • Repair or Replace Components:
    • If gears are damaged, replace them with OEM parts.
    • Replace seals and bearings as necessary.
    • Clean the interior of the transfer case thoroughly.
4. Reassembly
  • Reinstall Transfer Case:
    • Apply a small amount of sealant to the mating surfaces if specified by the manufacturer.
    • Align the transfer case with the transmission and secure it with bolts. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
    • Reconnect the shift linkage and electrical connectors.
5. Fill with New Fluid
  • Using a funnel, fill the transfer case with the appropriate type and amount of fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Replace the drain plug and torque it to the proper specification.
