Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Gather tools: jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, c-clamp, brake cleaner, and possibly a torque wrench.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheel where brake pads will be replaced (do not remove completely).
    2. Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
    3. Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the brake caliper and remove the caliper bolts using a socket set.
    2. Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor.
    3. Support the caliper with a bungee cord or similar to avoid stressing the brake line.
    4. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket. Note their installation orientation for reference.
4. Install New Brake Pads
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply brake grease to the back of the new brake pads to prevent squeaking.
    2. Position the new brake pads into the caliper bracket in the same orientation as the old pads.
    3. Use a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing to allow room for the new pads.
    4. Reattach the caliper over the new pads and secure it by tightening the caliper bolts to manufacturer specifications (check torque values).
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reinstall the wheel and secure it with the lug nuts (tighten in a crisscross pattern).
    2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
    3. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the brake pads are seated properly.
    4. Check the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
