Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and engage the parking brake.
  • Gather safety equipment such as gloves and safety glasses.

Tools Required:

  • Jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Brake cleaner
  • Caliper tool or thickness gauge
  • Screwdriver (if applicable for caliper removal)
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the rear of the vehicle.
  • Secure with jack stands to ensure safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Use the lug wrench to loosen and remove the lug nuts from the rear wheel.
  • Carefully take off the wheel and set it aside.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Remove the caliper bolts using the appropriate socket.
  • Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor without disconnecting the brake line; support it with a bungee cord or similar device.
  • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the brake pads for wear; replace if they are below the minimum thickness (usually around 3mm).
  • If replacing, install new brake pads by sliding them into the caliper bracket.
5. Clean and Inspect Rotor
  • Use brake cleaner to clean the rotor surface.
  • Inspect the rotor for scoring or cracks; replace if necessary.
  • If the rotor is within specifications, re-install it.
6. Reassemble the Braking System
  • Compress the caliper piston using a caliper tool to accommodate the new pads.
  • Place the caliper back onto the rotor and secure it with bolts, tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
7. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground by removing jack stands.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
