Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Tools Required: Lug wrench, socket set
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the tie rod ends will be replaced.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
3. Disconnect Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, tie rod end puller
  • Locate the tie rod end attached to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle.
4. Remove Old Tie Rod End
  • Tools Required: Wrench set
  • Unscrew the tie rod end from the inner tie rod by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Compare the old tie rod end with the new one to ensure correct length and thread size.
5. Install New Tie Rod End
  • Screw the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod by turning it clockwise.
  • Tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque value (usually around 30-40 ft-lbs).
6. Reconnect Tie Rod End to Steering Knuckle
  • Align the new tie rod end with the steering knuckle and insert it.
  • Secure it with the previously removed nut and tighten it to the specified torque value.
7. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then fully tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure.
8. Alignment Check
  • After replacing the tie rod ends, perform a wheel alignment to ensure proper handling.
  • Adjust camber, caster, and toe settings as needed according to manufacturer specifications.
