Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, fuel line disconnect tool, multimeter, cleaning kit (ultrasonic cleaner or fuel injector cleaning kit), safety goggles, gloves.
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Fuel Injectors
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it stalls.
  2. Disconnect the fuel lines using a fuel line disconnect tool. Be prepared for fuel spillage; use a rag to soak up any excess fuel.
  3. Remove the intake manifold or any components obstructing access to the fuel injectors as per the vehicle’s service manual.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors from each fuel injector by squeezing the tabs and pulling them off.
  5. Unscrew the fuel injectors from the fuel rail using a socket set and gently pull them out.
3. Clean Fuel Injectors
  1. If using an ultrasonic cleaner, prepare the cleaning solution as per the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Place the injectors in the ultrasonic cleaner and run it for the recommended time (usually 10-20 minutes).
  3. For manual cleaning, use a fuel injector cleaning kit. Connect the cleaning kit to the fuel inlet of the injector and operate the cleaner as per instructions.
  4. Inspect the injectors for any remaining debris after cleaning. Repeat the cleaning process if necessary.
4. Reinstall Fuel Injectors
  1. Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the O-rings of each injector to ensure a proper seal.
  2. Insert the cleaned fuel injectors back into the fuel rail and secure them with the screws.
  3. Reconnect the electrical connectors to each injector, ensuring they click into place.
  4. Reinstall the intake manifold or any components that were removed.
  5. Reconnect the fuel lines securely.
5. Final Steps
  1. Reconnect the fuel pump fuse and the negative battery terminal.
  2. Turn the ignition to the 'ON' position (but do not start) for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system.
  3. Check for any fuel leaks around the injectors and fuel lines.
